Researchers intended to provide estimates of the global, regional, and national health burden related to exposure to household air pollution. For this purpose, they analyzed 476 eligible studies with 15·5 million individuals from 123 nations (99 [80%] of which were classified as low-income and middle-income), via a systematic review and meta-analysis. They found a positive link of household air pollution with the following: asthma, acute respiratory infection in both adults and pediatric groups, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and tuberculosis; cerebrovascular disease and ischaemic heart disease; and low birthweight and stillbirth; as well as with under-5, respiratory, and cardiovascular death. According to the findings, a global reduction in the burden of cardiorespiratory, paediatric, and maternal diseases related to household air pollution has been reported, but the burden is still high in the world's poorest areas. To attenuate the adverse health effect of household air pollution, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries, there is a requirement for urgent combined health and energy strategies.
