After Suffering 5 Miscarriages, Couple Snaps Beautiful Photo Of ‘Rainbow’ Syringes

For anyone who has dreamed about being a parent for their entire lives, getting bad news about their fertility can be devastating.

Many women who struggle with infertility have to go through the heartbreak of miscarrying — often more than once.

Some people continue trying to conceive naturally, while others look for alternative solutions.

For some aspiring parents, that means looking at foster care or adoption, while others turn to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

IVF is not generally thought of as a particularly positive experience for many women — it involves a lot of money, doctor visits, blood work, shots, etc. — but if it works and they’re able to have a baby, it’s all worth it in the end.

That’s exactly how Jennie and John Hill feel about their year of IVF treatments. After having five heartbreaking miscarriages, they turned to IVF to help them have a successful pregnancy — and it worked!

Now they have a beautiful “rainbow baby.”



Jennie and John shared their story on the Facebook page Love What Matters, where it immediately went viral.

The two rainbow photos they shared — one with all the needles they used for IVF and one with their beautiful daughter — drew everyone’e attention.

The fact that they were so honest about the challenges and struggles of infertility resonated with a lot of parents — the Facebook post was shared over 680 times and liked by over 11,000 people.

After five miscarriages, Jennie and John turned to in vitro fertilization to try to have a baby.

It may not have been easy or fun, but it was all worth it when Jennie was finally able to give birth to their daughter, Harper Grace.

When Harper Grace was born, they knew they had to do something special to commemorate the struggle they went through to get her here, so they did a photoshoot that shows how incredibly happy they are to finally have their “rainbow baby.”

A rainbow baby is a baby born after the parents have struggled with miscarriage — for many of these parents, having a rainbow baby is even more special than it would have been if they hadn’t gone through miscarrying.

Jennie Hill told LittleThings, “After losing our 5 angels and finding out I have a genetic chromosome disorder called Balanced Translocation (it causes recurrent miscarriages), we opted to go the IVF route. With so much hope and determination, God finally blessed us with sweet Harper Grace.”
Jennie wrote on the Love What Matters Facebook page:

Meet Harper Grace, our rainbow we had hoped for after 5 miscarriages and then a year of multiple IVF treatments.

People ask me how hard IVF is.

This shows a fraction of what one endures.

These are the actual shots from our IVF journey (the caps of clouds are needles too).

The journey included an insane amount of shots (in the stomach/thigh/hip), not to mention the patches, pills, surgeries, doc appts, blood work, money, worry, concerns, tears and heartache.

But it all eventually led to this moment, this overwhelming joy.

It was all worth it in the end, every nervous moment.

As for her “rainbow baby” photoshoot idea?

“I took the photo of the amount of shots we needed (a few lost along the way). Thea [DuBose, photographer] then took our rainbow idea and ran with it!” explains Jennie.

People everywhere have responded in overwhelmingly positive ways to the family and their incredible photoshoot.
