Yup, it's that time of year again. It comes around fast, huh? Can you even bring yourself to say it; the dreaded C word? Christmas - there, I said it. If you're anything like me - you'll be far from ready to begin thinking about what gifts to buy people this year.

Well, for those health-conscious or fitness fanatics in your life, I've put together a list of my favorite health-related gadgets to help you choose, and give you an idea of the types of presents you could get them for December 25th.

Your loved ones not really into health and fitness? Well, one way you could look at it, is rather than shower then with traditional unhealthy treats such as chocolate, why not look into healthier alternatives? Give them something that will essentially improve their lives, instead!

Not convinced? Whether the special people in your life are fitness freaks or not, have a gander below - there's bound to be something in here for them (or even yourself). Here's my rundown of the essential Xmas health gifts for the tech lovers out there.

    PowerDot

The PowerDot can work on any muscle, helping to stimulate it for more efficient growth in support of your existing workouts

Using electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) to activate your muscle fibers so you can get stronger and recover faster, the PowerDot works via a simple app on your phone, which lets you control your workouts. You select the muscle groups you want to target and an impulse is sent to the pods that causes your muscles to activate.

The feeling PowerDot creates as it stimulates your muscles is a little bizarre and can be somewhat intense depending on the settings you chose, but you quickly get used to it. It really does feel like it's doing something positive to your muscles, whether that's the case or not remains to be seen (I haven't been using it for too long yet) but my body does feel like I've worked out harder the next day. It's also compact enough to take on travels with you if you're worried you'll be missing some workouts while on holiday or work trip; a great gift for the fitness freak in your life.

    Jaybird Run earphones

The most comfortable sports headphones? JayBird Run, by far

I’ve tried plenty of wireless "sports" earphones, but what has always surprised me is that most of them just aren't really that comfortable, and quite shockingly, aren't well designed for exercise. In most cases, wireless sports headphones are bulky, and in my experience, a chunky or heavy set of earphones do not bode well for active pursuits, as any kind of strong movement usually means they just fall out.

But JayBird's latest pair of fitness buds, the JayBird Run earphones, are quite the opposite. Not only do they have no wires connecting the two ear pieces to give you more freedom, but they actually stay there. They are also one of the most comfortable sports earphones I've ever worn, even more so than the Jabra Elite Sport, which I also like. Sound quality is also superb, and best of all they are loud if you need them to be. (Something that many earphones suffer from these days, I think.) These earphones are by far my favorite for any type of activities; they have it all.

Philips 9000 series 4K OLED TV with Ambilight tech

Philips' latest Ambilight OLED range of TVs boast the most relaxing viewing experience

Okay, so you might be wondering why there's a TV in a "health tech" gift guide, but let's not kid ourselves. Most of us own a TV, it doesn't mean we are couch potatoes though, right? Precisely. The whole point of a TV is to help us wind down after a stressful day at work, or a tough workout at the gym. Well, Philips' latest range of razor thin OLED TVs are the best out there for doing just that.

Boasting a unique Ambilight technology, Philips' new 9000 series not only make your screen feel much wider, but they make your viewing experience feel way more immersive thanks to the LEDs that line the edges of the screen, emitting vivid colors as an extension of what's happening on screen, subtly illuminating the surrounding walls and giving your living room a nice, relaxing glow.

Oral B Genius 9000S electric toothbrush

The Genius 9000S series is one of the most innovative toothbrushes available right now

As any decent dentist will tell you, electric toothbrushes are the best for keeping your nashes in good tick. But what's the best toothbrush out there for the job, because let's face it, there's a lot. One of my favorites, mainly due to the pure innovation involved. The Oral-B Genius 9000S is a bit different to your average because it connects to the Oral-B app on your phone via Bluetooth and guides you through an "intelligent brushing system" to help you clean your teeth like your dentist would want you to.

For those days you don't have time to start firing up the app, the toothbrush itself also helps you protect your delicate gums with a SmartRing and pressure control tech alerts you if you're brushing too hard with a bright red danger light, and reduces brushing speed. The 9000S also lats 12 days on a single charge and comes with a compact travel case, making it idea for taking on holiday with you.

    Shark DuoClean Cordless vacuum

The Shark DuoClean is a revolutionary hoover that can tackle almost any vacuuming task, helping to keep your home clean, tidy and as healthy as possible

A clean house is a healthy house, right? And how best to keep it this way than with a good quality vacuum cleaner. If you're in the market for a new one, but need something high-tech, portable and multi-purpose, then it has to be the Shark DuoClean Cordless vacuum. This nifty little sucker can tackle almost any suction job and thanks to its DuoClean Technology, which features a double brushroll design, it can work to remove large, small and stuck on messes from carpets and hard floors. Then there's its Flexology' tech, which means it can reach hard-to-reach areas, anywhere in your home.

The Shark DuoClean also converts to a Handvac so you can get in the deepest nook and crannies, from stairs to surfaces to soft furnishings. If you need something that can tackle anything but not take up half of your store cupboard, you've got to give this a go.

    PainPod

PainPod is a wearable that looks to replace the need for painkillers

If you have anyone in your life that has any kind of chronic pain, you're probably no stranger to hearing them moan about it. The good news is, you could shut them right up with PainPod, a totally new wearable gadget that is a drug-free alternative to painkillers.

PainPod is FDA listed and claims to be able to "change the face of medicine as we know it". The gadget is powered by a combination of microcurrents and biomedical technology that its makers state is not available on any other device available to the public right now. This bioelectrical tech is able to understand our peripheral nervous and body systems and how they actually work to manage pain, improve performance and speed recovery. Just slap it on an area that's in pain and it will work its magic to get you back in tip-top shape.

PROMiXX 2.0 rechargeable electric protein shaker

    A protein shaker that doesn't require any...shaking

For all those protein shake addicts in your life: buy them a protein mixer that doesn't require any manual shaking. I mean, they've already worked hard enough in the gym, right? Push a button and the shaker itself with do it for you. Kinda turns the whole idea of a protein "shaker" on its head, and I like it. It'll require a charge every now and again, but it means that your powdered drinks are mixed properly with less chance of chomping on those surprise lumps half way through your post-workout fix. The ProMiXX's detachable motor also means it's super easy to clean and there's also a separate compartment for your power so you can mix right after your workout to keep it as fresh as poss.

If you're looking for a good protein powder to gift alongside the ProMiXX electric shaker, have a gander at Protein World's Slender Blend. You can even personalize the blend with a loved one's name and it'll be printed on the tub; a great Xmas gift idea for the fitness freaks in your life.

Philips OneBlade hybrid trimmer and shaver

Philips' OneBlade trimmer and shaver can be used anywhere on the body and is super portable

Perhaps more of a beauty gadget than a health one, but as far as I'm concerned, keeping yourself preened is at the top of my health and wellbeing. One of the best I've used is the Philips OneBlade, a hybrid shaver and trimmer that can trim, edge, and shave any length of hair anywhere on your body. There's easy click on combs for a fast trimming action in all the right places, as well as a dual-sided blade for precise edging to line up your style easier than ever. It's also super compact and lightweight so easy to throw in your gym bag or take with you on weekends away, for instance. An ideal gift for your favorite hairy person in your life.

    Nuraphones

The Nuraphones are designed to keep you cool for hours while offering a personalized sound

The Nuraphones by Nura are a revolutionary kind of headphone and probably the most innovative on the market right now. They offer something no other headphones do: a personalized sound that automatically learns and adapts to your unique hearing, making them perfect for your hearing health, too.

The 'phones self-learning engine automatically measures your hearing in 60 seconds by monitoring otoacoustic emissions and then uses this information to sonically mold the sound of the headphones to perfectly match your hearing and bring your music back into sharp focus. The learning process is performed using a free companion app available on both iOS and Android. Once set-up, your profile is stored on the headphones. The result is unique: a sound that personalized especially for you.

Muhdo genetic profiling and fitness plan

Muhdo a health tech gift like no other, offering personalized fitness plans based on your bio-markers and genetic make-up

Arguably the best Christmas gifts are those which are the most personalized. Well you don't get any more personal than genetic profiling. Muhdo is one firm specializing in this. The epigenetics firm offers the most advanced and comprehensive DNA testing and bio-maker analysis for health, fitness and performance of any other genetics health company in the world, helping you discover and take advantage your genetic gifts to achieve your goals.

After running a bunch of tests, the Muhdo team will build up a fitness and nutrition plan made especially for you based on your genetic markers. They can tell you the nutrients your body needs more and less of to complement your workouts, and what types of exercise you benefit from the most.

    Huawei P10 Greenery edition

The Huawei P10 Greenery edition. No better for your health, but at least it looks it.

It might just be a phone with a green back plate, which admittedly doesn't make it a health gadget, but firstly, I had to include a phone in my Xmas gadget gift guide, and secondly it's actually a really great phone in a color that connotes good health and wellbeing. Tenuous, I know sorry), but hear this:

The Huawei P10 is an excellent Android phone. The Chinese smartphone maker has tweaked the design since the P9 and added some great improved features, including a brilliant vibrant display and top performance.. It also ticks all the right boxes design-wise. One of my favorite Android smartphones, especially the Greenery edition.

    Philips Avance centrifugal Juicer

Go on a digestive cleanse whenever you feel the need with Philips' Avance juicer

Fiber is one of the most important nutrients in helping us prevent heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, some cancers, and also improve digestive health. However, many people don't get enough fiber. One way of ensuring you do is with a simple to use juicer such as Philips' Avance. The juicer has FiberBoost technology, which enables you to choose the texture of juice you prefer, selecting with the switch of a button from a refreshing clear juice to a more creamy juice with up to 50% more fiber.

It's also super easy to clean, meaning you're more likely to keep up the juicing and not hide the appliance in the back of your cupboard once the novelty wears off. A great gift idea for the smoothie addicts out there.

    Nokia Health Thermo

The Thermo gives you accurate results on your fever so you know just how ill you really are

Just when you thought they couldn’t make anything else connected, Nokia Health (formerly Withings) goes and makes a connected thermometer, allowing you to keep track of that fever. And like the Body Cardio scales, the digital thermometer links to your Nokia Health account via the app and keeps tabs on your temperature over time.

And with 16 infrared sensors taking 4,000 measurements, it’s accuracy is a game changer for anyone who often falls ill. A good Xmas present for the hypochondriacs out there.

    Fitbit Ionic

The design of the Ionic is top notch

The Ionic is Fitbit’s strongest smartwatch yet and fitness fanatics are bound to love it's list of features, and so it's definitely got the potential to take on the smartwatch market. Its ability to track whatever workouts you can throw at it, with ease, all with a beautiful yet comfortable design that I'm sure will get heads turning at the gym, but for all the right reasons. The perfect smartwatch goft for those serious about fitness.
