Researchers sought to report on the trends over time in the rate of breast cancer, tumor features, and treatment in women under age 40. They conducted a retrospective cohort study of 197 women under age 40 at their institution diagnosed with breast cancer from January 2007 to April 2018. Per findings, there was no statistically significant evidence for an increasing trend of overall rate of breast cancer over the last 11 years found, however young women had an increase in the proportion of invasive breast cancers as well as an increase in proportion of advanced stage breast cancers over the last decade. In addition, they identified a trend for less aggressive surgical treatment (lumpectomies) over time in young women.
