A 21 year old college student comes to the clinic for concerns about her weight. She gained about 25 pounds since starting college 6 months ago. She eats all kinds of food including fast food and snacks rich in carbohydrates. She plays soccer for fun but she doesn’t play or exercise regularly. She doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol. Her medical and surgical histories are unremarkable. She doesn’t take any medications. Her father is obese and has type 2 diabetes and hypertension. On physical examination, her vital signs are within normal limits except for blood pressure of 146/94 mm Hg. Her body mass index (BMI) is 34.

What is the most appropriate management of obesity in this student?

A- Regular exercise for 30 min/day followed by strenuous exercise program for 6 months

B- Restriction of diet to 1300 calories/day with less than 30% of calories from fat

C- Laboratory investigations and treatment according to the results

D- Orlistat 120 mg with meals

    E- Sibutramine 10 mg daily
