hi, I'm from Italy. Six years for the degree: 40 to 50 exams (it depend's on the different universities, but eventually subjects are the same) and sometimes internship during the university. In my university for instance we have facultative internships in the ward we like and compulsory internships: - 4th year: 4 months in internal medicine and 4 months in a surgical speciality -5th year: 4 months in neurology and psychiatry, 4th months in the ward we like + some days in ophtalmology, Anatomical pathology, radiology - 6th years: 4+4 months in the ward we like (when we have free time) + a lot of weeks in emergency, gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and at the study of a general practitioner. At the degree we can't work yet. So we have compulsory internships: 1month internal medicine, 1 month at the general practitioner, 1 month in general surgery. In the free time we have to go in the ward we are going to specialize. Then we have the habilitation exam (after that we finally are doctors). After 3-6 months we have the exam for the speciality (3 years to be general practitioner, 6 years to be neurosurgeon or general surgeon, 5 years for all the other specialities).
From Portugal: 6 years to the MD degree 1 year General internship 4 to 6 years to specialization so 11 to 13 to the specialization. To be authorized to unsupervised general practice you must complete the 6 years plus general internship plus first year of whatever specialty you choose (8 years). The 6 years of medical school are generally divided: 3 years mostly theoretical, 3 years mostly practical (depends on the university). General&Family medicine is a 4 years specialty. Most surgical specialties and internal medicine are 6 years long. Most of the remainder are 5 year specialties. You you dont want to specialize, you can be a general practitioner by completing general internship and choosing any specialty and successfully completing its first year, and then giving up the specialty to practice private medicine. However most doctors work at the national health system (and almost all do so at least for some years), and general practitioners there must complete the 4 years General&Family medicine specialty. Recently some universities started 4 years somewhat more intensive (is that even possible?) degree programs to be attended by students with a college degree in anything else than medicine.
Hi! In Hungary it takes 6 years to become an MD. - 2 years basic medicine - 1 year pre-clinical medicine - 3 years clinical medicine (where the third year is basically a full time internship) After that, there is a 2 year compulsory residency and then you can specialize.

Hello, I'm from Romania. It takes 6 years, 3 years basic medicine and 3 years clinical. After that we have a national exam that classifies us on the specialities, it that takes from 3 years to 5 years, depends on the speciality you want to work, to be a real doctor. For example if you wanna be a surgeon the internship lasts for 5 years. Of course after finishing those six years you are classified as a "General Practitioner". **excuse me if there are some grammar errors.
In The Netherlands it's: - 4 years general medical science - 2 years intership - 6 years for your specialization Psychiatry, family medicine and tropical medicine are the only specialties that don't take 6 years to complete.
Just wondering: do you happen to go to Yarsi University? And yeah, in reality the basic usually takes up to 4 years, though. Especially if you're stuck with thesis and retaking practical tests.

hi i am from University of Crete, Greece and we study 6 years for MD. The first 4 years consist of the medicine subjects and next two years are clinical practice, but we are still students so we can take exams every semester to previous subjects that we had failed . After our graduation we have to deposit our degree and choose our specialty and the hospital we want to make it.. You begin via priority (multiple criteria) so there is a time (zero to 10 years to some specialties) that we have to wait until we start specialty.. this is frustrating, thus many of the greek doctors go abroad for the specialty..
In Poland it takes 6 years ended with our international medical egzam plus one year 'postdiploma pracise' to become medical doctor. And than you can choose specialization of your interest but it depends on the points gained from the national egzam. Hard stuff.
