    Re: lower extremity

I have seen a similar case during a stint with a soft-tissue surgeon....i was asked by the surgeon as to what the lesion was and my ans was lipoma ( since it had all the characteristics ). I was then asked to take the Hx, upon which i learnt that the person was a cyclist and had a fall on a synthetic surface which send her skidding for 5 - 6 meters....i still couldn't figure out since the mass seemed very superficial....the surgeon then explained that it is a form of closed degloving injury, wherein the skin and subcut. tissue separates from the underlying muscle leaving a potential space that fills in with tissue fluid or blood or both. Since the lesion didn't demonstrate a capsule ( that cud b shelled out ), it was decided to aspirate and the patient was sent home with a compression bandage.

The name of the pathology is "Morel-Lavallee lesion"
