We knew it (because, y’know, we’re smart like that).

People who wear glasses really are more intelligent. Science says so.

A new study by researchers at the University Medical Center in Germany has shown that people who are nearsighted spend more time in school and are more likely to go onto higher education.

For the study, published in journal Ophthalmology, researchers examined more than 4,600 Germans aged between 35 and 74 who have myopia, aka nearsightedness.

They found 53 per cent of college graduates had the eye condition, versus only 24 per cent of people who’d dropped out of high school.

So, people who need glasses are more likely to go to college and university.

(Of course, you could argue these findings prove that spending longer in the classroom worsens your eyesight, but we’re glossing over this.)

Previous studies have also shown that people who wear glasses appear more intelligent to others – and are more likely to find work.

A survey by the British College of Optometrists found that one third of Brits thought glasses made someone look more professional and 43 per cent believed they made people look more intelligent.

NYMag even reported back in 2011 that defence lawyers in the US were telling their clients to wear glasses in court because they’d appear ‘less menacing’ and more trustworthy in court.

Lawyer Harvey Slovis said: ‘I’ve tried cases where there’s been a tremendous amount of evidence, but my client wore glasses and got acquitted.’

So, to conclude, people who wear glasses are officially more learned than those who don’t.

And, even if you don’t need to wear them, if you’ve got a crucial job interview or court appearance, a nice pair of frames might make all the difference.

Fake it ’till you make it guys.
