Certainly a dumb question born of frustration and exhaustion, but why is it that when studying a particular medical subject or specialty, the books always give the most in-depth, detailed (and therefore most likely of screwing you over on an exam) descriptions to the most banal, uninteresting and plain boring of chronic diseases?

Say you're studying for cardiology: you can bet that hypertension is gonna take up at least a third of the text. Same goes for pneumology and COPD or gastroenterology and chirrhosis.
